Rather than just look at the fashion side of Japan. I’ve decide to look at the culture as a whole. So today I am looking at Japanese Art

Looking to Japanese art. I have found
that the images ar every delicate and detailed. I love this piece as it has
everything in it. From birds to flowers.

This image reminds me of a Japanese embroided silk dress. Actually reminds me of my childhood (I had a red and blue one). :-)

Continuing with our Japanese theme, I’ve decided to look at more subtleinspirations.

For example, one of my favourite designer Gareth Pugh designed a
collection for Paris Fashion Weeks’s S/S 2011 collection:

Samurai-style took over showcasing Sharp tailoring, high necks and tight up-dos abounded on the models, in a marked departure for the usually eccentric Sunderland-born designer but the collection kept with his theme of darker colours as models were seen in a grey and minimalist clothing.

From looking into Japanese culture for inspiration. I decided to look further into Origami. I love the way you can have a flat piece of paper and manipulate it into something 3D. And that’s exactly the same with fashion.

New Year, new trends and styles to keep up with because as we know fashion is forever changing.

So I’m going to take a look at what trends are already out there an ones that will be up and coming for the current season and year.

Despite the miserable weather vibrant and bold colours are definitely making an appearance. Along with basic prints and A- line shapes. A lot like Viktor and Rolf’s and Peter Som’s Ready-To-Wear S/S 2012 collection.

Also from Christopher Kane’s S/S 2011 collection, I see a lot Japanese inspired clothing making its way onto the fashion scene.

Caramel Rock provided the opportunity for some half term activity offering girl students from Cumberland School, Langdon School, Royal Docks Community School and the YOT (Youth Offending Team) the chance to participate in a photo shoot on the 25th of October 2011 at the HZV Studios London. The girls brought their own clothes and were given the chance to try their hand at a bit of modelling. Check out some of the images!!

Fashion week hit the streets of London last week and again never failed to measure up to expectations. What a colourful event it was with designers like Vivienne Westwood,Belle Sauvage, House of Holland, Marios Schwab,Matthew Williamson and last years fashion week favourite Craig Lawrence gracing us with their personal masterpeices that van goth would envy.To be honest the list could go on and on all the way down a very long catwalk. However, it was this years new edition to fashion week that pulled my strings and that was, Caramel Rock. Caramel Rock, for those who are unaware combines its support for outreach project with its desire for fashion. A unique combination, i know, but do not underestimate the brand because it has all the authority of high end couture and the attitude that screams 'fabulous darling'.

The fashion show for Caramel Rock arrived and like any fashion show, backstage was beautifully caotic. Automatically i had a starring role in the Golden age movie ' Attack of the 50 foot women' except these beautifully and incredibly tall models that surrounded me were no more a danger to me than they were to my self esteem. Note to self fashion week is not for the faint hearted and green is not my colour.

The day was very long and consisted of catwalk run through's, make artists, hair stylists and a wardrobe team running around like headless chickens attempting to make the models more beautiful, as if that was even remotely possible.

The collection itself suprised me the most. For weeks I had sat in the studio and stared in awe of these designs that sat on lifeless mannequins but as soon as they touched skin they came alive.

11 oclock hit, Runway was packed and it was show time. The models had slipped into their outfits and in the words of Tyra Banks they looked incredibly FIERCE!!!

We all loved it!!!

Fashion in Film: The fading glamour of the onscreen wardrobe

Although this may shock you, Vogue hasn’t actually been around since the dawn of time. In fact, once upon a time viewers used to turn toward the big screen for style inspiration. In previous decades film has been hugely influential in determining the latest trends, and was capable of creating classic looks that to this day have withstood the test of time.

Sadly it seems that this influence has waned. New movies simply do not induce a frantic frenzy to rival that of the timeless motion pictures featured below:

• The Seven Year Itch (1955). The moment Marylin Monroe stepped onto that vent in that dress, the entire image became iconic. Said moment may be unwittingly copied by unlucky girls waiting for the tube.

• Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961). This delightful film flew viewers into a whirlwind of sophistication and glamour. From the high-lighted bouffant to that LBD, Audrey Hepburn is still an icon and the epitome of style and elegance.

• Saturday Night Fever (1977). Whereas John Travolta’s gleaming white suit may nowadays only influence sales of Daz, at the time this ensemble created a buying boom.

• Flashdance (1983). Jennifer Beals proved it pays to prance around with portable shower heads. This showstopper screened within the midst of the aerobic-loving 80s, inspiring the trends of collar-less sweaters, colourful leg warmers and leotards.

• Pulp Fiction (1994). Effortlessly cool Uma Therman took to the floor with a blunt bob, crisp white shirt and a barefooted twist which ultimately won over the awed audiences.

• Bonnie and Clyde (1967). Featuring Faye Dunaway, a woman who seemingly possesses an infinite number of berets. As well as an unhealthy interest in criminal activity.

Is globalisation the culprit? We have so much access to fashion now- through magazines, television and the internet, that perhaps we no longer even notice the style within the cinema. Yet there has been an emergence of films that market the fashion presented as an actual reason to see the film. Examples include the glamorous ‘Sex and The City’ films, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, and the heavily stylised ‘A Single Man’. Do all films have to be this obvious to be influential?

There is no point suggesting that celebrities no longer have the power to influence the masses, but perhaps we are more interested to see what they choose to wear in real life, on a day-to-day basis?

Perhaps film stylists aren't taking much risk nowadays? The reason the styles shown above were so popular was because they were fresh and new. But after so many fashion cycles, is anything really new anymore?

The 70's are dead yet the Jazz Age is back?

As much as I love the glamour and razzmatazz of high waist trousers, pencil skirts, church hats, gloves and blazers, I can't help but wonder why we innately recycle what's been done and steer from inventing something new?

Sure, the catwalks and billboards wow our eyes with ostentatious costume drama- shame we can't walk to uni or our local supermarket in bat wings, or tonnes of eye make up (unless impersonating Lady Ga Ga of course).

What draws us to reliving a certain era at a certain time?

Earlier I posted an interesting discussion re the correlation between the economic climate and fashion trends. On the surface, there doesn't seem to be a link but let's really think about it for a minute.

During the 1940's we faced war, the invention of velcro, the slinky, the microwave, the frisbee, the development of commercial television, the first general purpose electronic computer, film noir, and Bambi!

In terms of fashion, rationing saw restrictions on silks, furs, nylons, rayon, wool and leather. Floral patterns flourished when granny and great granny were made to wear their curtains (literally).

In the name of all things patriotic, many would wear khakis, army greens, navy's and grey's. In a dare to be different, some would wear 'atomic prints' otherwise known as geometric patterns and shapes. Metal rations hindered buckles and belts. Also, let's not forget while the men were away, the women holding the fort couldn't always afford to oil a tank or shoot down a plane in ball gowns. Trousers and wedges soon replaced dresses and thanks to a shortage in rubber, heels and stockings were on the way out.

Now let's look at today. Our computers have become tablets, commercial online television is predominant, film noir has a new found respect...I cannot justify the Velcro, but you get my point!

Moreover, we're facing a war and our economy is in an 'interesting' state to say the least. Everyone is cutting back one way or another and I must say my curtains would make for a very nice number.

Are we unoriginal for recreating what we already have or through fashion are we merely reflecting the state of the world we live in?

Caramel Rock has launched a summer programme to give young people the opportunity to step into the fashion world!

The Caramel Rock Outreach Course leads up to a fashion show event where students are given the chance to exhibit the work they produced during the session. Not only will they be creating garments and gaining valuable knowledge within the fashion industry, they will also curate portfolios that will contribute greatly to their career in the fashion industry.

Through this summer programme, Caramel Rock aims to provide a wealth of experience to those who desire a career in fashion but, need that first break.

It last two weeks but you can choose your starting day:
• From the 1st to the 12th
• From the 15th to the 27th of August
The classes will be from 11am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

•Prints and Patterns
- Designers haven’t been shy to going wild for Prints and Patterns this year, such as a seen on this year’s catwalk was polka dots, leopard prints, Hawaiian prints, bold and bright dye prints. Dolce and Gabbana have modernize the trend of star prints on the catwalk, which the star print has become a must have to be seen in, whether if it’s a T-Shirt or a mini dress that suits every occasion.

•Pleats
-Pleat designs are currently popular on the catwalk, red carpet and also on the high street. Miu Miu showcased in their runway spring 2011 of pleats. Whether if it’s a pleated dress, long nude or light pink pleated skirt along with white or cream top, it has become a summer must for 2011.

•Seventies Style
-Seventies Style has become a popular trend seen on the catwalk for spring/summer 2011. This will enable for both females and males to either wear bold, fun and colourful choices due to this trend. Designers such as Marc Jacobs has already embraced the seventies style trends with big and bold prints and accessories that showcase the seventies style in 2011.

•Stripes
-Stripes is a constant in style trend that can be worn all seasons, at any time, but in the Spring/Summer 2011 catwalk, the trend is to make it colourful and bold statements, with just simple stripes. Prada shows the colourfulness of stripes, Even if it’s a top, skirt or dress.

•Block Colours
-Block Colours is a trending this year, colours that stand out such as pink, yellow, orange, blue, are all popular at the moment. This trend will allow for you to make bold statements with what you are wearing, allowing for there to be creativity with the colours that are being worn. Lanvin shows the ideal case of wearing block colours.

Why do people wear make-up? Cover blemishes.. Impress themselves.. Impress others.. Look younger.. look older.
Everyone has their own reasons for wearing make-up. Some are 1000% more over the top then others, i.e, Orange faces, Spider length eyelashes, Unmissable pink cheeks.
It's unfair for me to say this is because they have not yet discovered the correct rules to putting on make-up because believe it or not that is not always the case.
Make-up is a way of how people express themselves or even ways of making their outfits look that much better.
Its funny how the ones with the craziest and the weirdest faces get the most of our attention though isn't it.

Caramel Rock Classes For Youths And Adults

Caramel Rock is a fashion label and an outreach project teaching different specialism within fashion and arts, from street dance to couture fashion. The sessions are run throughout the year so if you would like to get involved please contact us, for more details.

My main focus is working with youths, those who feel they have no hope in life, or even in school. I will also welcome any one who would like to learn. I love working with children and would also plan to work with the older generation. I feel I can also learn from people who are older than me who appreciate, creating which is why I would like to work with an older generation teaching them what I know later on in the course.

Giving my community a purpose will motivate them, and keep there priorities straight and can develop their potential to succeed. I want to equip people with the knowledge of skills and qualities which can help them with employment later on in life. It's about inspiring people to do something for themselves (investing in people).

The Caramel Rock organization is also run and organized by youth volunteers, focusing on developing skills within fashion and dance. From haute couture to advance street dance. We welcome those from all backgrounds, whether you have experience or not.

Caramel rock would be hosting an amazing fashion show on the 12th of februaury 2011 at the prestigous Docklands Hilton Hotel. The Show promises to be full of excitement and colour, as it is themed valentine's day special, which means, lots of love, red and yes, chocolates!! :).

There would be Refreshments and various fashion activities on showcase, with the highlight being colourful catwalks from models displaying various designer items from Caramel rock's fashion line.
The stage would be filled with irridescent smoke effects, creating a glorious fsahion atmosphere on the night. caramel Rock would also be showcasing many exclusive items from its line, which have never been shown before.

What Has Caramel Rock been doing for the Community in the Past week??

Hey there Fashion lovers, Its not news to know that Caramel Rock continues to work closely with local commuinties to promote community growth and development.
In its recent bid to foster community relationships, Caramel Rock recently held a workshop that brought 16 disabled children and 14 adults (Teaching assistants) on a fun filled day of fashion, creativity and art.
The workshop which was held on the 13th of October 2010 and lasted from 9:15 pm to 2:15 pm, was designed to allow these disabled kids and adults to experience something new, by means of fashion, and allow them also express their creativity. There were several disbality cases, from deaf and dumb children, behavorial disorder, severe breathing problem cases and so on.

Moving away from the conventional classroom setting, Caramel Rock took these kids and adults to a day of outing where each individual was made to work with a team in order to create magnificent fashion and artworks. The day started with a human sized drawing to be adorned by the kids and adults. They literally dressed the image with colours and fabric of their choice, bringing out the creativity in all the participants.
They then moved on to a photoshoot session in the graden, which again allowed these kids and adults to showcase a bit of creativity in the great outdoors. Images taken were very moving and inspiring, and one of the diasbled kids who uses an oxygen mask beacaue of severe breathing problems, said he was amazingly joyed to be able to step on grass as he has never done that before beacsue of his condition.

This event was extremely helpful to all of the kids, and even noticeable changes were seen during the session. Apart from the smiles and creativity it brought out in these kids, some of the kids with behavorial and aggresive conditions were amazingly focused, calm and co operative becasue of the team and group effort that some of the tasks entailed.
It was an amazing feeling to all those who participated and Caramel Rock aims to continue to carry out continous programs, workshops and activities of this nature to carry on helping communities. Caramel Rock recenly moved to a new studio in Canning town, East london, and as Caramel Rock continues to expand, it also continues to welcome volunteers to its various fashion programs, which helps people with keen fashion interest to gain experience in the fashion industry.
Caramel Rock is planning a fashion trip to Paris, where it aims to take some of its volunteers and workers to the fashion capital of france, in order to gain some experience and see fashion the french away. There are so many negative aspects shown in the media about my community, but on the other hand there are so many good people in it. I feel it is becoming my job to bring that out of people, as I am someone who spends every day of my life helping others.

To begin, I hope to introduce art in bringing out peoples inner eye and ability, helping them to appreciate other peoples work as something so simple can be beautiful. I will introduce week-by-week projects furthering people's knowledge, then introducing them to fashion, working with fabric, and helping them to truly understand the human body before they work with fabric. If what I do is a success I will continue what I do through the year, which will enable people to gain more skills and qualities.

The reason why it is a Fashion and Arts Project is because there are a team of young colleagues that also run this project with the skills not only in Fashion but also Dance and Drama, which are both forms of Art. This will be introduced in future sessions.

My main focus is working with youths, particularly with those who feel uninspired and de motivated with any activity the find themselves doing. I will also welcome any one who would like to learn. I love working with children and would also plan to work with the older generation. I feel I can also learn from people who are older than me who appreciate, creating which is why I would like to work with an older generation teaching them what I know later on in the course.

Giving my community a purpose will motivate them, and keep there priorities straight and can develop their potential to succeed. I want to equip people with the knowledge of skills and qualities which can help them with employment later on in life. It's about inspiring people to do something for themselves (investing in people).

A lot of investment is put into 2012 Olympics, but this is something else which can reach out to different kind of people leading up to that, its showing an interest to not only athletes.

As I am still a young person learning I hope to bring in guest teachers with qualifications, which can help them within different fields.

I had a place at one of the worlds best universities for Art and Design, St Martin's University of Art and Design. With the knowledge and contacts I have made I hope to bring that to my community, showing them a wider range to the industry.

The Garden Café is a welcoming place and has done a lot for my community, which is why I feel it is the best place for me to hold the sessions. The things I do and the things they do are so similar which is why together we can do so many great things.

Not only is this a clothing line but it is a welcoming place for everyone to come along and learn.

here is the first time i ever went to paris and i was meeting some friends out there its funny because as you get older your friends come an go and you realise who are tru to you as they start to slip away here was new years eve a few years back where i loved this hello kitty shower curtain and made a dress out of it and loved it but all my freinds i went with at the time complained and believed we wouldnt get in cos i was dressed like a circus freack lol i think i looked fierce !!!!! lol here i am in the usa enjoying the sun on a lovly day out

I was invited to the 2010 spring collection of mathew williamson which was amazing and the cloths was beautiful, but extreamley heavy.

this is a olllllld skool pik lol this is when i was doing my foundation course in art and design at camberwel university of the arts, and was doing a printing project, and then stay like this for the whollle day and right down peoples reactions it was funny and i even went home like it that was the most funniest part and got soo much attention as you can imagin and some random person ask to take a picture of me for his school work and sent me the pic this is just infront of a white wall lol but looks quite sik lol im always ready baby. fierceeeeeeeeeee !!!!!!!!!!

here i just landed in the usa and cheacking out was sooooooooo long and tiring i had landed in miami which was soooo much fun then went to florida a week later, fun times
